Creating Personal Educational Stories

Empowering Future Innovators & Leaders

At Ntare Louisenlund, students are the principal actors in their own learning process. We foster curiosity, creativity, and collaboration in an inquiry-driven environment where each student builds a personalized learning path.

Personalised Learning at Ntare Louisenlund

At Ntare Louisenlund, learning is personalized and differentiated to meet the needs and interests of each learner. Our curriculum design and students’ informed choices ensure content is relevant to their local, regional, and global contexts.

We believe that learning must be effective and meaningful, rooted in the learner’s experience of the world around them. Students are empowered to take responsibility for their own academic and personal development through self-directed inquiry, real-world application, and reflection.

In every experience, we strike a balance between individual exploration and collaboration with peers, preparing learners to act creatively, think critically, and take initiative.

Curriculum & Educational Philosophy

We define learning as a lifelong process of growth, discovery, and reflection. At Ntare Louisenlund, students develop a deep conceptual understanding, acquire key competencies, and build strong character in a community of inquiry.

Our approach emphasizes inquiry, action, and reflection – activating cognitive processes, nurturing curiosity, and promoting resilience. We value academic achievement alongside social-emotional development, encouraging learners to set goals, work persistently, and act responsibly for themselves and others.

+STEM Programme

The +STEM Programme at Ntare Louisenlund identifies Rwanda’s most talented students in math, science, and technology and brings them together in a national center of excellence. Students are selected in partnership with MINEDUC through a multi-stage process that includes nationwide competitions.

Once admitted, students benefit from personalized, inquiry-based learning, real-world research experiences, and mentorships. The program is supported by the German STEM Talent Foundation and offers Rwanda’s first Junior STEM Academy outside Germany.

Access is based on talent and character, not income. All scholars are supported through income-based parental contributions and government-funded scholarships. Corporate and academic partners provide resources, mentorship, and exposure to innovation ecosystems.

Student Body

A Learning Experience Tailored to Each Student

Our student body reflects a rich blend of Rwandan and international perspectives. Half of our students come from all provinces of Rwanda, including Kigali, and the other half join us from across East Africa and the world.

We promote cultural diversity and Pan-African identity, ensuring inclusive, responsive, and high-quality learning experiences for all. Each year group welcomes 160 students—80 STEM scholars and 80 students in our international stream with a focus on social entrepreneurship.

Our Daily Schedule

A Day at Ntare Louisenlund

Our structured daily schedule balances academics, leadership development, and co-curricular activities, ensuring students receive a well-rounded education.

*Every Monday morning begins with “Mentor Checkin”, a reflective meeting time between mentors and ‘mentees’ for planning, goal setting, and reflection on learning progress and achievement.

Where Learners Lead

Over 70% of Afterschool Programs Are Student-Led

From STEM research collectives to humanities debate circles, students take the lead in organizing, managing, and evolving academic clubs that deepen their knowledge and sharpen their leadership skills.

Peer-to-Peer Mentorship

Within classrooms and study groups, older students often take on mentoring roles — supporting academic excellence while modeling teamwork, patience, and responsibility.

Research-Driven Leadership

Our Plus-STEM learners frequently lead their own inquiry-based projects, presenting solutions to real-world challenges and guiding peers through the innovation process.

Preparing Tomorrow’s Academic Leaders

By integrating leadership into every aspect of academic life, we prepare students not just for exams — but for university, careers, and civic responsibility.

Academic Excellence Meets Student Initiative

At Ntare Louisenlund Rwanda, we believe that true learning happens when students take ownership of their educational journey. Our academic environment is designed not just to develop subject mastery, but to cultivate leadership, independence, and initiative in every learner.

“Ntare Louisenlund taught me more than physics and coding, it taught me how to take initiative, guide a team, and create something meaningful from scratch.”

Co-Curricular Experiences

Under the international curricular requirements, co-curricular experiences and the requirement to take part in them follow the IB’s CAS principle (Creativity, Activity, Service).

All students participate in at least two sports in addition to the daily fitness warm-up. Team sports such as basketball, volleyball, soccer, and swimming build physical and social competence. Swimming lessons are mandatory in the first two years.

Students also engage in service learning, creative activities like theatre or woodworking, and clubs like debate or language exchange. Throughout the six-year program, students learn German until they reach at least B1 level. The weekends are dedicated to special events and themed learning workshops.
